Overmolded Cable Assembly Strain Relief and Sealing Guide

Overmolded cable assembly design protects the connector transition area from bending, moisture and repeated handling. The mold shape, material and cable jacket must match the working environment instead of being treated as decoration.

For waterproof or outdoor use, the design should consider sealing surface, cable outer diameter tolerance, strain relief length, connector geometry and pull-test requirements. Early design review can reduce leakage risk and mold rework.

When requesting a quotation, provide connector drawings or samples, cable specification, overmold shape, color, logo requirement and expected production quantity.

Engineering Checklist

  • Confirm connector series, mating part number and pin count before sampling.
  • Define wire gauge, cable jacket, routing space, bend radius and environmental exposure.
  • Provide a drawing, sample, wiring table or pinout so production and inspection requirements are clear.
